• New baby girl is best Scoop ever

    The Scoop

Courtney Hazlett and new daughter Sawyer.

Anybody remember this post, about me being a little bit pregnant? Well, four (long-ish) months since pointing out the increasingly obvious, my little one has made her way into the world. On Thursday, Jan. 12, we welcomed Sawyer Ruth, and she's perfect.

This means I'm making a graceful, albeit temporary, exit out of the world of Scoop.

While I'm getting to know our new family member, your celeb needs will be in the capable hands of the usual suspects: The Clicker, TODAY Entertainment, and msnbc.com Entertainment.

I'll see you in the spring!

  • Photographers take aim, Jolie's son shoots back

    OPINION

Angelina Jolie took two of her sons, Pax and Maddox, to a party supply store in Hollywood on Thursday, and the paparazzi weren't the only ones shooting.

    Sasa-rod-campos-dr / X17online.com

Photos from X17online.com show young Pax taking aim at the photographers with a new toy machine gun as his mother smiles before they jump in their waiting SUV.

After looking at the images, I paused for a moment to think about all the war-torn countries Jolie has set foot in as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations. It's not a stretch by any means to say she's seen first-hand the devastation wrought by the very weapons glamorized in that molded plastic. In fact, the actress is still promoting her directorial debut, "In the Land of Blood and Honey," a love story set against the backdrop of the Bosnian War.

But the action star who has shot up plenty of film screens here, here and over here, has a surprising take on it all, as referenced by Entertainment Weekly a few years ago: ''Mad, our 6-year-old, draws lots of war scenarios,'' she explains. ''He's all into war and guns. So for Mother's Day he drew a machine gun, and Brad had it made into a necklace, which is really sweet. It's really cute. I think it's really good!''

Before you try to pull the N.R.A. card that I don't have, know that I don't have a problem with the toys Jolie's kids play with. I can barely type this thanks to the gun shape my fingers are permanently twisted into from years of playing cops 'n robbers and war as a kid. I shot everything from cap guns to bent sticks in an effort to blow away my brother or my friends. But beyond a BB gun aimed at a tree, I've never fired anything real in my life.

And if you looked at the arsenal in my almost-5-year-old son's toy closet, you'd figure boot camp for Stormtroopers started awfully young. Or you'd understand that a cowboy on Halloween just looks like a rancher without toy six-shooters tucked into his plastic holster.

I don't anticipate my son crafting an M-16 necklace for me anytime soon. And my wife and I run into plenty of other parents of young kids who say, "Oh, we don't allow guns in our house." That's great. I applaud that (and I keep it secret when I hear blasters firing in my son's room during playdates).

But in the intense media spotlight where Jolie and her family live, I think it's pretty cool that her kid gets a chance to "shoot" back at the photographers who have been taking aim at him for years.

  • Bristol Palin decides Hollywood isn't for her

While Bristol Palin's mother continues to court television deals, Bristol has made the decision that life in the Hollywood spotlight is not for her.

    In Touch Weekly

Bristol Palin and her 3-year-old son Tripp.

Bristol tells In Touch Weekly that the revelation came in part after she got into a well-publicized fight at the Saddle Ranch in West Hollywood, where a man took issue with her mother's politics. "I wasn’t really into the Hollywood thing," she told ITW. "After that, I just realized that I was over it. I was ready to come home."

Bristol also says that returning to Alaska meant a better lifestyle for her 3-year-old son Tripp, too. "He’s going to be starting preschool soon, so we needed to settle into a routine," she said. "When we’re here [Wasilla], Tripp is outside all the time ... his cheeks are always bright red!”

Mother and son have moved into the apartment under Sarah's TV studio on their property, and it's been a happy transition for the family. "It’s great having Bristol here," Sarah told In Touch. "She makes good decisions, and she’s always thinking long-term about her and Tripp’s future."

As for Levi Johnston, Tripp's father and Bristol's ex, Bristol claims that he's not very involved in Tripp's life, despite their close proximity. "He’s not using his visitation, and he’s not paying his child support," Bristol reports.

  • Chaz Bono ready to date as a single man

Paul Zimmerman / Getty Images file

Just before the holidays, Chaz Bono called off his engagement to fiancee Jennifer Elias, and now the onetime "Dancing With the Stars" contender is saying that he's ready to date, for the first time as a single man.

"What a great skill: to be able to take a woman dancing ... and actually know what you're doing," Bono told People magazineof hopes to take his newfound dancing skills to the dating scene.

Since his split with Elias, Bono's been working on staying fit, the magazine reports. He's been skiing, and has taken up boxing. Meanwhile, he's given lots of thought to what it will be like to date as a trans man. "People focus on what's between your legs," Bono told People. "If I never have bottom surgery [the procedure by which a penis is created], I'm fine. I feel 100 percent male as I am."

  • Daniel Radcliffe, 'hated dating,' was 'crap at it'

    Jake Chessum for PARADE

The romantic awkwardness Daniel Radcliffe displayed as Harry Potter wasn't much of a stretch for the actor, apparently. Radcliffe tells Parade magazine that although he's now happily in love, dating was far from his strong suit.

    Jake Chessum for PARADE

"I hated dating because I’m crap at it! With Rosie (Coker, Radcliffe's girlfriend), I didn’t know what was appropriate, like on which date you’re supposed to try and kiss her," he told the magazine. "At the end of the second date I pulled a move out of the Bela Lugosi 'Book of Woo' -- I went to kiss Rosie and at the last minute lost my nerve and ended up kissing her neck, which is such a weirdly intimate place to kiss somebody on a second date. Afterward, I texted her, saying, 'I’m sorry, what I just did probably seems very odd to you.' Fortunately, she just found it really funny, so she kept coming back."

Radcliffe has most recently been starring on Broadway in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," and his first non-Potter feature film "The Woman in Black" hits theaters next month.

Despite any perceived pressure to knock things out of the park with this new film, Radcliffe has a good attitude about his success and knows that it will someday diminish. "I have accepted that (success won't last)," Radcliffe said. "In a way it’s a great relief that I will never, ever do a film as successful as the Harry Potter series. But neither will anybody else. Or it will take them a long time."

The full piece appears in Sunday's Parade magazine. In the meantime, you can check out this slideshow of Radcliffe through the years; outtakes from the interview; and Radcliffe's thoughts on fatherhood.

  • Rooney Mara: Girl with the style we want to steal

When we're not actively posting items here at Scoop, part of our job is sorting through photos of celebs ... lots and lots of photos of celebs. In doing so, we're largely saving your eyes from the many dreadful promotional pics that fall under the category of "C-lister drinking X-brand vodka at marginally popular nightclub Y." Once in a blue moon though, the myriad photos yield a pattern we have to share with you. In this case: the impeccable style of Rooney Mara.

    Getty Images, AP, Reuters

Actress Rooney Mara, walking the red carpet and doing publicity around the world for her new film.

Weeks into her global publicity tour for "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," Mara continues to brandish one perfect outfit after another. Perhaps some looks are catching our eye because they're in such stark contrast to her "Dragon Tattoo" look of leather and rage (but if that's the look you're after, check out H&M's "Tattoo" inspired clothing line). On the other hand, they could be the result of good taste and a fantastic stylist.

    Columbia Pictures

Mara in "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo."

Robert Verdi, a fixture in his own right in the style world, agrees that Mara's look is near perfection. "She has what people in fashion and who love fashion, love: 'it.' And it's not necessarily just what she's wearing," Verdi tells Scoop. She has her own canvas: the sharp black hair ... a nude lip or red lip. She, and her canvas, is consistent. I think that has something to do with it."

Verdi said Rooney's own personality and place in the showbiz scene has something to do with how she pulls off these looks, too. "When you see her there's a little bit of innocence and nervousness. When she becomes more comfortable, she's going to be like Angelina Jolie -- pretty and edgy. She will either take the time to talk or blow right past you because she can. She's got that right balance of badass and girl next door. But the choices of clothes are fabulous. These aren't choices about looking pretty, these are choices about being cool and unexpected," Verdi said.

But not everyone agrees. Over at Huffington Post, one of their bloggers claims that Mara should take a page from the Kristen Stewart book of fashion, because Stewart "merges vampire-bride edginess with couture that's fun to view on the red carpet."

On which side of the debate we fall on is clear (and on that note, we'll take anything you're not going to wear again, Rooney). But if you want to sing Mara's praises or defend HuffPo's (ridiculous) notion, take it on over to Facebook, friends.

Not knowing that Beyonce and Jay-Z were married nearly cost a man his life.

Some of us keep more up-to-date on the world of celebrity marriage than others. But who knew that ignorance of Hollywood nuptials could end in attempted murder?

Cleveland-based FOX8.com is reporting that a man was stabbed as a result of a fight that began when he didn't know that singer Beyonce and rapper Jay-Z are married.

The FOX8 report is tantalizingly short on the details, but says that the fight was over a music video.

Seriously? This was a reason for a stabbing? Let's discuss on Facebook.

  • No reconciliation ahead for Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver

Maria Shriver, left, and her late mother Eunice Shriver.

Despite rampant rumors that Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger are working toward a reconciliation, sources close to the couple insist that the two remain friendly, but are not re-thinking divorce plans.

The latest round of speculation was triggered when Shriver was spotted out and about wearing a ring on her ring finger, shortly after Schwarzenegger appeared in public wearing what looked like a wedding ring. People magazine cleared that up, pointing out that the ring Shriver was wearing actually belonged to her late mother, Eunice Shriver, and Maria has worn it often since her mother's death in 2009.

"Maria and Arnold are going to be seen together -- it doesn't mean the divorce is off," a source familiar with the couple's situation tells Scoop. "They're close to their kids and they're going to do things together for their (the kids') sake."

Shriver and Schwarzenegger announced their separation in May after 25 years of marriage. The two spent Christmas together with their family and "had a really nice time," People reported. "Children and family come first ... Arnold and Maria will always come together when it comes to supporting and loving their children."

  • Demi Moore: 'I have a love-hate relationship with my body'

It's hard to believe that Demi Moore might have any criticism of her own body, being that she's among the most fit 49-year-olds out there. But the actress is admitting that she hasn't always been happy with her looks.

    Cedric Buchet for Harper's Bazaar

"I have had a love-hate relationship with my body. When I’m at the greatest odds with my body, it’s usually because I feel my body’s betraying me," Moore said in the new issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine. "Whether that’s been in the past, struggling with my weight and feeling that I couldn’t eat what I wanted to eat, or that I couldn’t get my body to do what I wanted it to do."

Moore has been in the spotlight even more than usual lately, since she announced that she'd be splitting from husband Ashton Kutcher. That makes her comments about fears of abandonment all the more poignant. Moore went on to say, "I used to think that what scared me was the idea of being abandoned until someone said to me, 'Only children can be abandoned. Adults can't be abandoned because we have a choice. Children don't have a choice.' So I started to rethink. 'Okay, it's not that. What's the underlying thread that really scares me?' I think what scares me is not having the courage to reach my full potential."

Ultimately, Moore said that she has a refreshed outlook on what's ahead and what freedom is for her. "Letting go of the outcome. Truly being in the moment. Not reflecting on the past. Not projecting into the future. That's freedom," Moore told the magazine. "Not caring more about what other people think than what you think. That's freedom."

  • Report: Justin Timberlake, Jessica Biel engaged

    Eric Thayer / Reuters file

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have been together for four and a half years, by most math, although they broke up briefly in 2011.

If you subscribe to the "where there's smoke there's fire" school of rumor assessment, then the there might be something to the continuing talk about an engagement between Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel.

Us Weekly is going big with it this week, saying that the couple became engaged in late December, and Timberlake popped the question in the mountains of Jackson, Wyo. "Justin knows how much she loves snowboarding and the mountains, so it was the perfect place," according to the "insider" Us Weekly is quoting in the new issue.

It's worth noting that the engagement rumors surfaced in December as well after a Jackson Hole-area jewelery store speculated on its Facebook page it had happened. At the time, Gossip Cop poked probable holes in the story, quoting a source close to Timberlake, who told the web site, "I don’t believe this to be true at all -- the facts of where they are don’t even add up."

All of that said, we've yet to get a firm denial. So until then, speculation lives on.

  • Ewan McGregor surprised by plans for 3-D 'Phantom Menace'

    Peggy Sirota / GQ

Get ready to see quite a bit of Ewan McGregor in 2012. The actor stars in four films over the course of the year and among those is "Star Wars -- Episode 1: The Phantom Menace 3-D." This piece of info actually came as something of a surprise to McGregor during his recent interview with GQ. "They're actually going to re-release it into the cinema?" he asks. "Well, that's interesting." (As an aside: "Star Wars" in 3-D? I don't have a good feeling about this.)

You can't totally blame McGregor for being a little out of the loop -- the 40-year-old actor has his hands full at home, as the father to four girls. Not that he thinks it's entirely overwhelming: "I never feel battered by it," he told GQ. "I wouldn't have it any other way."

Though before anyone gets to see McGregor in the "new" "Phantom Menace," you can catch him in "Haywire" (due for release Jan. 20). Director Steven Soderbergh is behind the film, and McGregor says to expect to see him "getting his head kicked in" in the action flick. Check out the trailer:

  • Howard Stern personally calls Twitter fans on New Year's Eve

    Richard Drew / AP

Howard Stern wished some fans a happy new year with a personal call.

Howard Stern fans who follow the radio host on Twitter had a chance to get up close and personal with the King of All Media on New Year's Eve.

Stern tweeted this message to his followers Saturday night: "Beth and I are drunk dialing. What's your phone number?"

Stern and wife Beth apparently followed through on that promise for the next few hours, at least according to Stern's Twitter feed, where he would tweet about who he spoke to. In numerous cases, he didn't reach the person, but tweeted that he left them a voicemail message.

One fan tweeted that he adopted his two cats because of advice from Stern, and Stern tweeted "Just called to hear about the cats. Got voicemail."

An equal opportunity pet lover, apparently, Stern also called two fans who mentioned their dogs, including one who said that he and his wife were staying home with a dog who'd just returned from the ICU.

To another, Stern tweeted "sorry to interrupt the video games," and to another, he said "Drinking beer alone. What happened? You clammed up on me."

Some of the fans then reported on their calls via Twitter. The aforementioned video gamer wrote "Howard Stern just called me! This new year rules already!"

Another lucky fan tweeted after her call: "OMG! It was like the best thing ever! I started crying after we hung up!"

When he was finished, Stern tweeted "Just made my last call. Going to bed. Wishing everyone a happy new year. If u get a call after this...it's not me."
