Police were called to the Plaza Hotel early Tuesday after a "drunk and naked" Charlie Sheen "trashed" his hotel suite, according to media reports and a law enforcement official who spoke to The Associated Press.
Sources told the New York Post that tables and chairs had been thrown around the "Two and a Half Men" star's room, and a chandelier was also damaged. Sheen told police he'd been "out partying," according to the Post's sources, and he was accompanied to New York Hospital by his ex-wife Denise Richards, who was staying in a separate room. Richards is in New York to promote the book she's working on.
Her Twitter feed gives no indication of the incident. At approximately 6 a.m., she wrote, "Good morning!! Getting ready ... Heading to do Howard Stern this am!! Hmm what could he possibly ask this time?!?!"
Sheen's publicist Stan Rosenfield tells Scoop, "What we are able to determine is that Charlie had an adverse allergic reaction to some medication and was taken to the hospital, where (he) is expected to be released tomorrow."
As for reports that claim Sheen was hospitalized for a psychiatric exam, or that Sheen was with a paid escort at the time of his arrest, Rosenfield would only say, "What I told you is what I know."
This is just the latest in a string of troubles for Sheen. The actor pleaded guilty in Aspen, Colo., in August to misdemeanor assault after a Dec. 25, 2009, incident involving his wife Brooke Mueller. Prosecutors dropped more serious felony charges and Sheen avoided jail time and was sentenced to 30 days in a rehab center, 30 days of probation and 36 hours of anger management.
Prior to the altercation with Mueller, Sheen was charged in December 1996 with attacking a girlfriend at his southern California home. He later pleaded no contest and was placed on two years probation.
