That sort of logic might make some sense while in the moment, but it's far from a comprehensive approach. Recognizing this, Rolling Stone has taken an under-the-microscope tactic and actually crunched numbers for 16 solo female artists.

The mag ranked brick-and-mortar sales and digital tracks, YouTube play and airplay, social networking as well as awards -- among many other elements -- to find out just who is the queen of pop.

Click through Rolling Stone's study, and see if you agree with the answer. And then weigh in with our vote.

It amazes me how many of you vote for a tween that can't sing. If you ever heard her sing live, you might change your mind!

Who Taylor? She is by far in a way the best live singer on the face of the planet. Idk what you are talking about. You have not seen her live, I have, enough said.

I have four kids, 3 girls from 8 to 13, and a 4-year old boy. The girls all picked Taylor Swift from the list provided. Two of them are learning to play her songs on the guitar, and the youngest likes to sing Taylor Swift songs while I play the guitar. However, the boy - like I am - is a huge Beatles fans.

The Beatles as the Queen of Pop? Interesting.

Sarah Palin is no where close to being as irritating as Common Sense's posts. Beyonce and Britney are good performers but IMO are not talented vocally without the help of modern day technology.

Kelly Clarkson is definitely the queen.  She has the voice to beat them all.  She writes amazing songs.  She can sing everything from blues to gospel to country to rock to pop.  There is no one else out there who can do it all as well as Kelly can!

I have never understood the obsession with Swift, yes she is cute, but she has no talent. They must do wonders in the studio to cover up that voice. I may not care for Lady Gaga's music, but at leaset she can sing. And I agree with the others, where is Beyonce' in this vote, her talent is goes beyond this list as a whole.

You realize you could not be more incorrect if you tried right? Taylor Alison Swift is the best live/recording singer/band on the face of the planet we call earth. You have not seen her live lately clearly, I have proving I am the one who knows what they are talking about

So you're one of those crazy people with no life, right? You're speaking as if you are the fan club president and you will dispose of anyone who says anything bad about Swift. People have their own opinions, dear. You don't need to reply to every single person that dislikes her. We get that you like her. Even though in my opinion, she's not the queen of pop...considering that's not even really her genre in the first place.

Gaga does not need auto tune, she does not lip sync her concerts and she is a fantastic singer and song writer.

Taylor Swift is a country hick...please stop lumping these country artists into pop. P!NK should be the queen of pop. She is relevant, passionate, and has kick a$$ vocals. I saw her live at the HOB in Orlando a few years ago, she was stripped down, lots of acoustic sets, a Capella...it was beautiful, she is beautiful and does not receive enough props for her vocal talent. Most people don't have the b@lls to sing it without all the layers of crap when they are performing live but not her and she brings it every time.

I agree with Sydney that Pink certainly has a legitimate shot at being QoP. I also find it odd that Beyonce is not on this list, yet Taylor Swift is on it. Swift is country, plain and simple....and besides, she can't even carry a tune in a bucket.

Katy Perry....nice rack, but not pop royalty. Gaga has certainly made a HUGE splash, and I find myself chair-dancing to her tunes often, even though I'll deny it if ever caught....lol.

Rihanna....I don't think crossover rap is part of the "pop music" scene. She's never appealed to me.

I say, from the list given, I'd say Gaga, with a close second place going to Pink.

Oh....and to G. Zucker above.....I totally agree with you and your son that the Beatles are the greatest band in pop music history, bar none! Today's music wouldn't be the same without their overwhelming influence.
