Lionsgate announced on Monday that "Dirty Dancing" is going to get a reboot -- songs from the 1960s would be added, and "Dancing" choreographer Kenny Ortega (who came up with the "dirty" dance itself) will direct.

It's a fun concept, but who can possibly fill Patrick Swayze's shoes as Johnny? Before your outrage sends you straight to the comments, know that "no one" is an option in our vote.

Chime in there, and then feel free to pontificate below.

LEAVE THE CLASSICS ALONE!!!

Can't the studios come up with any new ideas, instead of remaking classic (& not so classic) movies for the "younger" audiences.

Very irritating!

Hopefully this one will have more car chases and "toilet humor" (sarcasm)

You are right Brenda - they do ruin everything. I am sure there is really good new material out there ( look at some of the other movies that came after Dirty Dancing like The English Patient or Slumdog Millionaire. )

I agree. I learned yesterday that they are doing Spiderman AGAIN...and now this movie! In the grand scheme of things...this movie was not that great. Why are they remaking a bad movie to begin with....there is no way to make it any better.

I totally agree, Brenda! Is this the best we've got? Is this what we will get from now on...remakes of old movies? There aren't any NEW ideas out there anymore? Have we become SO lazy as a nation that we're just as happy to see stuff redone rather than demand new ideas or plots? Ugh...it seems to be the way I see Americans going, in general, and it makes me sad.

WOW, really impressive whine factor today. Is someone out there forcing you to go see movies you don't want to see? Don't forget the old author's adage that there are in fact only 7 plots in all of the books/movies written. There's lots of new stuff out there and there are remakes. Go see what you want to see and ignore the rest.

joe...if we don't go see remakes of old movies, or sequels to movies based on old comic books or 80s toys, it doesn't seem like we have anything to go see at all.

I agree with Brenda.

Are the writers so bad that they are devoid of new scripts. Seems the last number of years, all LaLaLand does is remake classics that they have no right to touch as they clearly have done a bad job in the remake. Who watches or buys the remakes -- no one. They go back and buy or rent the original Classic. But we do know why it's called 'LaLaLand' - Devoid of brains but full of stupidity and a whole lot of crappy actors/actresses that they try to 'sell' us but truthfully should be flipping burgers.

no one can replace patrick swayze, are you kidding me? if they remake this i will not watch it,,, it is a classic, its perfect, no one has the chemistry that jennifer grey and patrick swayze had in this film, and its embarrassing to even attempt to put some one in patricks shoes as a dancer,,,,, leave perfection alone, really

Agreed - there are SOOO many good books that have never been made into a movie even once.

Until they're done with that list, why on Earth would you want to remake a film like this. I am one of those that wasn't impressed (at all) with this film when it came out, but hey, I'm a guy - so no surprise. Regardless, it's PATHETIC to remake it.

And if you do remake it - you can only use Swayze! I don't care that he's dead, if you can't book him for the remake, don't make it!

      @ Jerry -

While i am against a remake, I do agree that Derek Hough would be a cool choice; HOWEVER, having Julianne would seriously be ughhhh, cuz that's his SISTER! You can have either or, but NOT both.

Joemike404, "...impressive whine factor"? et tu'? Is there someone forcing you to come on to these boards and read peoples opinions and comments?

The fact that Hollywood anymore seems to be in "remake" mode, and destroying many of the oldie but goodie's. They can 't leave well enough alone. And the fact that many turn out to be flops do indeed indicate that people are choosing to ignore them.

          #1.18 - Wed Aug 10, 2011 10:07 AM EDT

i think they are wording it wrong. they should not say replace, they should say play. BECAUSE PATRICK CAN NOT BE REPLACED.

I would prefer Cam Gigandet. He would be more believable as the "bad boy" type. Channing Tatum gets all the "dance movies" and Zac Efron cannot pull off the bad boy image.

I was going to suggest Max or Derek. Although, I am not thrilled at the attempt to remake a classic such as "Dirty Dancing." I didn't bother going to see the "Fame" remake either. Some movies should just be left alone.

Stop remaking things so soon. If no one in Hollywood has any new ideas then look at some black & white flicks for a remake idea instead of something a good portion of the viewing public already saw in theaters. I'd love to see Gaslight remade.

He's definitely a great dancer, but I don't know about his abilities with the style used in the movie. Derrick Hough is already highly trained in the movie's style of dance.

                            #7.1 - Tue Aug 9, 2011 10:41 AM EDT

A lot of times when they remake a movie like this they'll change the time period, so the 'dirty dancing' could be something different, but I'm not sure what. I seriously doubt I'd go see it, the trailers are gonna have to look out of this world fantastic to get me in there. I'll just watch the original again, I've only seen a couple dozen times, lol.

That would be a switch, right? Cuz the guys listed can't hold a candle to Swayze...that's just facts. There are so few triple-threats (singers/dancers/actors) who make it to these kind of rolls because Hollywood is such a 1 note town.

If you cannot come up with an original story, you should not make movies! What's worse is the fact that the public seems to actually go and see these movies!

I didn't pay to see the first one, why would I pay to see the remake. FYI I wasn't a 12 year old girl when the original movie came out, since they seem to be the only ones who liked the movie. Swayze was a girly man and Grey wasn't pretty. Ghost and Roadhouse? Are you kidding me?

And I guess in your small mind, any man who is as marvelous a dancer as Patrick Swayze MUST be a "girly man", right? News flash, Mike. Real men can, and do, dance. My husband is a wonderful dancer, and, I can assure you, ALL man. In my opinion, there are few things sexier about a man than being a good dance partner. Just a hunch, but I bet you couldn't dance if your life depended on it.

No, dancing men are fine, they actually get more women then men who don't. However, most of the women I see freshwater fishing are hot, not really. Sometimes I dance, sometimes I don't.

And what about Jennifer Grey as well! Nobody could ever equal her joy and vulnerability. And don't forget how much the actors who played her parents contributed as well. Don't do it. It would suffer terribly in any comparison with the original.
