Who were Hollywood's rule breakers of 2011?

    By Courtney Hazlett

Was it an especially rebellious year in Hollywood? The Hollywood Reporter thinks so. The magazine this week puts the spotlight on some of the key players in the industry, the actors who took risks, saved shows and made the biggest splash in pop culture.

"We were really trying to celebrate and honor those people who bucked convention this year, go against the grain and take a risk," Leslie Bruce,  Hollywood Reporter senior writer said on Wednesday's TODAY.

So who made the cut? George Clooney's work in the last year as actor, director and producer of various projects got him attention; the movie "The Help," also made the list; so did Zooey Deschanel for her "breakout" role in "New Girl."

Who should have made the list, and who should have been left off? Watch the segment, then take it on over to Facebook and share your thoughts.

George Clooney on hitting the AARP years

    By Courtney Hazlett

Yes, our dear George Clooney is 50 years old, and while we (OK, I) think he's no worse for wear, Clooney says he can tell when he looks in the mirror that he's hit the half-century mark.

    Parade

"I look at myself on-screen and go, 'I don't look like I did when I was 40 -- I know that.' The people I've respected most in the industry over the years -- Paul Newman, for instance. I just loved the way he handled growing old on-screen," Clooney says in the new issue of Parade. "It's understanding that you're now basically a character actor."

Clooney is now qualified to receive a subscription to the AARP's magazine, which came as a stunning revelation. "I find that as you get older, you start to simplify things in general. By the time you get a subscription to AARP, which I just got, you have some idea of who your friends are, at least. [Getting the AARP subscription] shocked me -- 'Are you kidding?' [laughs] I told them they should do 'The Sexiest Man Still Alive,'" he said.

All of this is walk-up press to Clooney's new film, "Ides of March," which will be released Oct. 7. Clooney, who plays an inspirational presidential candidate in the movie, told Parade that project had to wait for political mood in America to be right before "Ides" could hit theaters. "We were in preproduction on this film in 2007, before the Obama election. And then we realized that a good portion of the country was elated with what happened in that election, so we had to shelve the movie until people were cynical again," he said. "I didn't think it would be quite this quick."

George Clooney finally gets married ... in Norwegian TV ad

    By Courtney Hazlett

Sworn bachelor George Clooney has tied the knot ... well, that's not entirely true (insert sigh of relief here, Clooney fans). In a commercial for Norwegian bank DnB NOR, the actor does get hitched, but it's a slow reveal.

A woman (the bride) wakes up looking hungover the morning after to see a huge ring on her finger and a wedding dress on the floor. She appears to not recall what happened the night before until her husband -- Clooney -- enters the room. The actor says, "I like your dress, it looks better off than on," and everything becomes clear.

A magical moment for anyone who has ever dreamed of being that (hungover) bride with a big rock on her hand.

Evan Rachel Wood on her Bieber crush, bisexuality

    Marie Claire

    By Courtney Hazlett

Attention Justin Bieber haters: don't try talking smack about the pop star in the company of Evan Rachel Wood. The actress has revealed that she's a massive Belieber; she's so into him that she's even seen his movie "Never say Never" three times.

"I saw the movie [Never Say Never], and that's what did it. I ended up seeing it three times -- in the theaters," Wood told Marie Claire. "One of those times was the director's cut, I'm not even kidding. I got obsessed with the kid. It's going to be weird if I ever meet him. He's brought so much joy to my life."

Wood, who dated Marilyn Manson off and on from 2006-2010 also opened up to the magazine about being bisexual. "Yeah, that's a big part of who I am, and it always has been for as long as I can remember. I can't say I'm one way or the other because I've honestly fallen in love with a man and I've honestly fallen in love with a woman," she said. "I don't know how you label that, it's just how it is."

You can see Wood in the upcoming "Ides of March," alongside co-star George Clooney.

Caption contest: Bono chats up Clooney

    Jeff Vespa / Getty Images

George Clooney and U2's Bono chat during an event at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday.

    By Kurt Schlosser

Some of the many celebrity photos we look at every day just beg for a little more information. Or, perhaps more accurately, beg for a little more fun misinformation. So we're looking for your help.

You've already demonstrated that you've got an opinion about what's going on in the photos we run as the new Red-carpet Review feature has taken off. And it's no mistake that the long running Celebrity Sightings slideshow is a big hit on TODAY.com.

So if you like looking at celebrity photos and you think you've got the skills to write a snappy pun, then be on the lookout for this new caption contest feature, launching right here and returning regularly in Scoop. We'll also post the photo on the Scoop Facebook page and look for your entries there. The caption that gets us laughing the most by 4 p.m. ET will be called out for bragging rights.

Let's get things started with the above photo from the Toronto International Film Festival this past weekend. What in the world are George Clooney and Bono chatting about? Get over to Facebook and tell us!

Is this George Clooney's new girlfriend?

Jason Merritt / Getty Images file

Stacy Keibler at Spike TV's 5th annual Guys Choice Awards on June 4.

    By Courtney Hazlett

Just when we were really settling into the idea that George Clooney is single (and therefore, maybe available to those who dare to dream), we get news that he's dating someone new.

According to Life & Style, Clooney is now dating former WWE star and "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Stacy Keibler. She reportedly flew to Italy to join Clooney at his home in Lake Como. While traveling there, she tweeted "I'm in heaven." Which could just be a comment about Italy (it can be quite nice there!) or a comment relating to some budding romance.

Either way, Clooney's rep has not yet responded. Stay tuned.

No 'new girl' (yet) for George Clooney

Pascal Le Segretain / Getty Images file

George Clooney and Elisabetta Canalis at "The Men Who Stare At Goats" premiere during the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 8, 2009.

    By Courtney Hazlett

Apparently, the European press is abuzz with word that George Clooney is planning to bring a "new girl" to the Venice Film Festival, which begins Aug. 31. It would be a fitting debut for a new lady friend; Clooney's new drama "The Ides of March" opens the festival and it's also where he debuted his ex Elisabetta Canalis back in 2009.

But there's no truth to the rumor. Clooney straightened it out via a statement saying, "The Italian press, from Corriere Della Sera to TGCOM, Ansa, NewNotizie, Sky.it and even Vanity Fair are all running a story that  quotes me as saying that I'm bringing a 'new girl' to the Venice film festival. I never made that statement and it's not true. It was made up to sell tabloid magazines. It's a ridiculous lie and should be corrected as publicly as it was originally written.”

Clooney and Canalis split in late June.

    George Clooney, Elisabetta Canalis split

    Stefano Rellandini / Reuters file

George Clooney and Elisabetta Canalis in Milan, Italy, last September.

Just weeks after Elisabetta Canalis' comments about one day being married were published, she and George Clooney have split.

"We are not together anymore. It's very difficult and very personal, and we hope everyone can respect our privacy," Clooney and Canalis said in a joint statement.

The couple was together for two years.

Canalis earlier told the Italian weekly magazine, Chi, that "I am a firm believer in marriage, in the future I will be married. But for the time being I am as happy as I am, I don't need anything to confim how happy I am."

Scooplets: Jennifer Lawrence warms up, Clooney's making a money movie, more

    GQ

    Jennifer Lawrence.

    • Jennifer Lawrence, the Oscar-nominated star of "Winter's Bone," is apparently ready for a change of seasons. The 20-year-old actress sports a pink bikini by Chloe in a spread for the May issue of GQ.

    • Regardless of whether we need more movies about the economic collapse, George Clooney is set to produce and maybe direct one. This one will be based on the "$700 Billion Man."

    • Taylor Swift didn't spend $700 billion, but she did recently buy her mom and dad a $1.4 million home in Nashville.

    • A 'Harry Potter' couple is engaged. Our little Ginny Weasley is all grown up.

    • "Sweet Valley High" is going to get the big-screen treatment! EW reports that Diablo Cody ("Juno") wrote a script for a feature-film version of the series.

    • Ready your meat dress: MTV set a date for the Video Music Awards. They'll be in L.A. for a second year on Aug. 28, at the Nokia Theater.

Weekend box office: Lohan's 'Machete' plays OK

    20th Century Fox

It's unlikely that many people earmarked Labor Day weekend as Lindsay Lohan's comeback weekend, but it certainly had that undercurrent as her film "Machete" opened up against George Clooney's "The American." And the verdict? Although "Machete" came in No. 2, bringing in $11.4 million, against "The American," which brought in an estimated $16.2 million (according to Box Office Mojo), it seems fair to say "Machete" did OK. The two films opened in a comparable number of theaters and "The American" had a much stronger publicity push. Maybe things will be alright for Lohan after all.

The third new release of the weekend, "Going the Distance" did the opposite. The Drew Barrymore-Justin Long film came in No. 5, and only grossed $6.9 million. This is, however, an improvement over Barrymore's last release, "Everybody's Fine," which only made $3.8 million when it opened in December 2009.
