2011's most searched person? Justin Bieber

    Brendan Mcdermid / Reuters

    Justin Bieber

    By Courtney Hazlett

Let's cut to the chase here: Despite all the moaning and complaining the internet (and this site, and my Twitter and Facebook) receives about Justin Bieber and all the media coverage of him, he's still Google's most-searched person of 2011.

And guess who is No. 2? The other celebrity everyone loves to hate (but apparently, secretly searches, early and often): Kim Kardashian.

    Kim Kardashian

To say any of this is surprising would be disingenuous. Record sales, ratings, the line outside the Dash boutique on any day that ends in "Y" -- these indicators don't lie. Biebs and Kim K are clearly people the general population is attracted to, it's just a little shocking to see that more people are plugging their names into Google than say, Steve Jobs (No. 8), a truly enigmatic innovator whose mark will be left on this world long after Bieber and Kardashian have faded from memory.

While it's no surprise that Lady Gaga would come in at No. 3 (unless you think it's surprising that she finished behind Kardashian), it is somewhat surprising that Nicki Minaj was the fourth most searched person in 2011. The hip hop artist caught the attention of most of America during the Grammy Awards in February (which was went Google searches for her spiked). Click on the video below for a reminder as to why.

Report: Paternity lawsuit against Justin Bieber dropped

    Nacho Doce / REUTERS

Justin Bieber will no longer have to prove whether or not he fathered a child.

    By Randee Dawn

Justin Bieber is off the hook! At least, in terms of having to take a paternity test. According to TMZ, Mariah Yeater has dismissed a lawsuit claiming the 17-year-old is the father of her child.

Two weeks ago, the California-based Yeater stepped forward with her lawyers Lance Rogers and Matt Pare to claim that she and Bieber had shared a backstage encounter after one of his Los Angeles Staples Center concerts, and that her four-month-old baby was his. Bieber and his representatives denied any such tryst ever took place, and prepared to take a paternity test to refute her claims.

"To set the record straight, none of it is true," Bieber declared during a visit to TODAY earlier in November. "I know I'm going to be a target, but I'm never going to be a victim. It's crazy, because every night after the show I've gone right from the stage right to my car. So it's crazy that some people want to make up such false allegations."

"I can confirm that the team has proactively made arrangements for Justin to be tested upon his return and we're going to hold everyone who is involved responsible," Bieber spokesperson Matthew Hiltzik said in a statement, as reported on MTV.com. "It's sad that someone would fabricate malicious, defamatory, and demonstrably false claims. We'll vigorously pursue all available legal remedies to protect Justin and to hold those involved with bringing this suit accountable for their actions."

According to TMZ, the paternity case is now dead in the water, and Yeater's lawyers have quit representing her.

MTV.com says there's no word yet on whether Bieber's reps will follow through with their legal case now that the original suit has been dropped.

Justin Bieber says there's no truth to those baby-daddy rumors

    By Courtney Hazlett

Baby, baby, baby no! Justin Bieber addressed those rumors about being the father of a woman's 3-month-old baby on TODAY on Friday morning. The singer, on the show to promote his upcoming Christmas album "Under the Mistletoe," told Matt Lauer that there's no truth to the woman's claims.

"I'd just like to say basically that none of those allegations are true," Bieber said. "I know that I'm going to be a target, but I'm never going to be a victim."

Chat with The Scoop about celeb news, Friday at 9 a.m. PT

He went on to explain, "It's crazy, every night after the show I've gone right from the stage right to my car, so it's crazy that some people want to make up such false allegations. To set the record straight, none of it is true."

To be clear, Lauer followed up by asking Bieber directly, "Do you know this woman? Her name is Mariah Yeater?"

"Never met the woman," Bieber said.

Baby, baby! Justin Bieber gives glimpse of being a daddy

    instabieber.com

An Instagram photo of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez with, count 'em, six babies in tow.

    By Courtney Hazlett

Justin Bieber might be only 17 years old, but he's already got a vision of the future, and it includes being a young dad. He recently told Women's Wear Daily, "Well by 25 or 26, I want to see myself, like, married or start looking for a family."

Whether he's starting to look for a family with current girlfriend Selena Gomez, that's not clear. But he's starting to look like a guy with a family, at least so far as this photo published on the singer's Instagram stream goes. "Brangelina 2.0 hahahahahaha," reads the caption.

It's all in good fun though: Bieber did tell WWD, "I'm not looking to get married now."

Evan Rachel Wood on her Bieber crush, bisexuality

    Marie Claire

    By Courtney Hazlett

Attention Justin Bieber haters: don't try talking smack about the pop star in the company of Evan Rachel Wood. The actress has revealed that she's a massive Belieber; she's so into him that she's even seen his movie "Never say Never" three times.

"I saw the movie [Never Say Never], and that's what did it. I ended up seeing it three times -- in the theaters," Wood told Marie Claire. "One of those times was the director's cut, I'm not even kidding. I got obsessed with the kid. It's going to be weird if I ever meet him. He's brought so much joy to my life."

Wood, who dated Marilyn Manson off and on from 2006-2010 also opened up to the magazine about being bisexual. "Yeah, that's a big part of who I am, and it always has been for as long as I can remember. I can't say I'm one way or the other because I've honestly fallen in love with a man and I've honestly fallen in love with a woman," she said. "I don't know how you label that, it's just how it is."

You can see Wood in the upcoming "Ides of March," alongside co-star George Clooney.

Scuffle, confusion at Bieber event in New York

Updated at 6 a.m. PT, Friday: The whole thing was "a misunderstanding," says Bieber's rep. Read the latest right here.

    Fred Thornhill / Reuters file

Updated at 3:20 p.m. PT, Thursday: Justin Bieber was reportedly shaken up after being knocked to the ground by a man outside a Macy's store in New York City on Thursday.

According to TMZ.com, the man was an undercover policeman.

The website for WABC reported that Bieber was at the store promoting his new fragrance for women when he went outside to greet a large crowd of screaming fans. Bieber reportedly deviated from the planned route, and the crowd became too rowdy. At that point, the policeman -- who was not in uniform -- jumped a barricade to help the teen singing sensation, TMZ reported.

Gossip Cop reported that a man was taken into custody, and the New York City police told The Associated Press that a 47-year-old man was issued a summons for disorderly conduct. That man, according to TMZ, is one of Bieber's security team members. The undercover policeman reportedly cited the security member for grabbing the cop, pulling him away from the singer and refusing to back off after the policeman identified himself.

Bieber's representative told the AP that it was all "a misunderstanding." The singer wasn't injured.

Justin Bieber confused for make-a-wish kid

On "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Thursday night, funny guy Jason Sudeikis (who is hosting the MTV Movie Awards this weekend) came on to talk about various and sundry subjects, and talk turned to the NBA All-Star celebrity game. Sudeikis, Kimmel and Bieber were all there, only Sudeikis didn't recognize the Canadian pop idol at first.

"I didn’t even know it was (Bieber) for the first two quarters,"he told Kimmel. "I thought it was a make-a-wish situation." Ouch.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez: beachbound and bikini'd

    Splash News

A shirtless Justin Bieber escorts Selena Gomez after stepping on the beach while in Hawaii.

Fresh off his night of Billboard Music Award wins, Justin Bieber arrived in Hawaii on Monday for some R&R. But he wasn't flying solo: his girlfriend Selena Gomez was by his side, hitting the beach.

Though the pair haven't spoken out much about their relationship, they were spotted kissing outside the Vanity Fair Oscar party, and they shared a smooch at the Billboards on Sunday night.

Gomez earlier this month told Seventeen magazine, "I'm 18, and I'm going to fall in love. I'm going to hang out with people, and I'm going to explore myself, and I'm OK with that."

White House calls in favor to Justin Bieber

    Wong Maye-E / AP file

An administration official confirms to TODAY.com that the White House did indeed make a call to Justin Bieber's camp in an effort to make good on a promise President Obama made to a young Bieber fan.

While in New York on May 5, Obama met a 14-year-old Bieber fan whose father was killed in the Sept. 11 attacks. He mentioned to her that he "knows Justin," and could arrange for her to meet him.

The White House contacted Bieber about the meeting, and according to TMZ, Bieber said he'd meet the girl when he's back in the U.S. and returns to the East Coast.

Bieber's camp didn't return messages about when the meeting might take place.

    Justin Bieber egged in Sydney

In very dubious display of affection, concertgoers at a Justin Bieber tour stop in Sydney, Australia, threw a half-dozen eggs at the pop star. Ever the professional, Bieber didn't let a little yolk bother him; he kept on dancing, despite the onslaught. Are we witnessing the first visible crack in Bieber's popularity?

    • What to expect when you watch Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern interpretation? Han Solo. "The character is somewhere in the middle. He’s a classic male," Reynolds told the L.A. Times. "Han Solo, who was witty but not really funny, was one of the touchstones.” You can read the full piece here.

Scooplets: Lindsay's Good Friday plea, makeup-free Tyra, more

    • Maybe life at Brown University wasn’t so idyllic for Emma Watson. The “Harry Potter” star was reportedly heckled by some students when she answered questions in class. According to the Daily News, “Three points for Gryffindor!” was a popular refrain.

Lindsay Lohan is scheduled to be back in court on April 22.

    • Is Good Friday a valid reason to postpone a court date? No, not even Lindsay Lohan can get away with that. Radar reports she invoked the holiday to get her Friday hearing postponed. It will go on as scheduled.

    • Recognize this supermodel? It's Tyra Banks, without makeup.

    • There's one place in the world where Justin Bieber doesn't draw a lot of fans: Israel. The Hollywood Reporter writes that his April 14 concert in Tel Aviv drew somewhere between 17,000 and 24,000 fans. By contrast, Madonna's 2009 show at the same venue pulled in 56,000.

    • As if we needed another reason to like Reese Witherspoon: at her wedding, she kicked off her Jimmy Choo sandals in favor of cowboy boots.

    • The entertainment world is well represented in the annual Time 100 issue. Chris Colfer of “Glee,” Colin Firth, Blake Lively and Bruno Mars are among the celebs who made the cut. More in the video below:
